A Saturday morning some time back I was drinking that first cup of coffee while taking notice of my messy workshop. Of particular interest, my scrap wood bin was full to overflowing from board cut-offs, strips and pieces from prior projects.
Well, as it turns out, they work great for coasters. Using a series of “glue-ups” followed by squaring things up in the planer, I was able to create a laminated brick made up of multi-colored wood strips. The coasters were then sliced off the brick one by one to create several coaster sets. After sanding and finishing, cork squares were glued on the underside of each to help them stay put on the table.
